    Carers Support celebrates its volunteers
    Volunteer Day

Carers Support West Sussex has celebrated the work of its volunteers who play such a vital role in helping the charity support family and friend carers across the county.

Carers Support West Sussex has celebrated the work of its volunteers who play such a vital role in helping the charity support family and friend carers across the county.

At an annual ‘Volunteer Day’ held at the Dome in Worthing on 14th September, a group of  our committed volunteers met to talk about new ways of working to support some of the 84,000 carers in West Sussex.  The day included group discussion and hearing from volunteers and some fun dance entertainment as well as a ‘thank you’ from Chief Executive Jennie Musgrove.

But Carers Support West Sussex is also calling on more people to come forward to give a little  time to help carers who collectively save the UK economy an estimated £4,000 a second.*

    Chief Executive Jennie Musgrove said:

“Our volunteers are the lifeblood of Carers Support and we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do without their invaluable contribution.  Many of our volunteers are, or have been, a family or friend carer themselves and so have a unique understanding of the challenges caring can bring. That is invaluable and I am overwhelmed by our volunteers’ talents and knowledge.  We are extremely lucky to have such great  people working with us.

    Jennie Continued:

“Carers Support is always looking for more volunteers and in our charity  we have volunteering opportunities which would require just four  hours of someone’s time each  month.  That is less time than we spend on our smartphones.

    Volunteer Coordinator Pam Thomson said:

“It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity for our volunteers to meet one another in a social setting while helping to shape volunteering for the future.

“Our volunteers bring experience, understanding and empathy into Carers Support in a way you simply can’t find anywhere else.  Working with them to support carers in West Sussex is such a pleasure.”
