Are you using the NHS App to help save time with your caring role?

The NHS have developed a handy App, giving you a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet. This App forms a one stop shop to help you save time and make, what can be laborious tasks, quick and easy, freeing up space to do the things you enjoy.

The NHS App provides the following useful functions:

  • Gives easy access to the NHS Covid-19 Pass
  • Advice about COVID-19
  • You can order repeat prescriptions
  • Book and cancel GP appointments
  • Receive health advice
  • View your health record
  • Register your organ donation decision
  • Find out how the NHS uses your data
  • View your NHS number

Can I use this App for my cared for?

As a carer, you can also use the NHS App to manage the healthcare for the person you care for, making it easier to access support and advice from their GP surgery without leaving the house.

Help and guidance for use of the app

The NHS Digital First team has created some e-learning resources to support volunteers to help carers to use the NHS App. Carers Support is currently involved in the pilot of these resources, and is using their Digital Champion network to test if the resources have enough detail to offer adequate support in the use of the app. Wendy Taylor, Volunteer Coordinator for Carers Support said ‘It is excellent to have these resources that assist the Digital Champions to support carers to download and use the app and to help demystify the process. The feedback so far has been positive.’

If you are an unpaid carer in West Sussex, we would like to offer you guidance on how to download and then the general use of the App. If you would like to take up this free offer, please contact Carers Support West Sussex on 0300 028 8888 or email info@carerssupport.org.uk stating you would like assistance from a Digital Champion.

Perhaps you are already tech savvy, in which case, you can download the NHS App from the App Store or Google Play. If you would like to know more about the NHS App or other digital offerings, in the area you can find out more here.
