Carers Support West Sussex is announcing the appointment of Robert N Adams as its new Chair of the board of Trustees.
Robert succeeds Alan Botterill who has served as Interim Chair for the past twenty months. Alan will continue to serve as a trustee director.
The West Sussex charity supports nearly 24,000 carers living in West Sussex who find themselves in an unpaid caring role for family members, friends and children living with a range of life limiting conditions. They provide services including a dedicated Carer Response Line open six days a week, more than fifty monthly carers groups, a Carer Learning and Wellbeing Programme offering free workshops and a Carer Equipment Service to support those in a caring role.
“My first contact with the charity was as someone needing help in July 2017, whilst being a full-time carer for my wife. A year later I volunteered my business knowledge and charity management expertise and I have been on the Board as a Trustee ever since.”
Robert has a wealth of experience to bring to the table. Qualifying in business management and marketing, overseeing maritime operations, travel commerce and marketing teams right through to becoming a practice director of a sizeable law firm. Robert has subsequently held a number of trustee roles in the charity sector. Latterly, for seven years, he was also a CEO of an international maritime charity.
Sonia Mangan, Chief Executive of Carers Support welcomes Robert on board and says:
“As a charity team we are always delighted to have the skills, support and energy of so many local volunteers and the Trustees are all exceptional people who give their time freely. Their role is to steer us through and make sure that we continue to make a difference to so many local people in the County. I am looking forward to working closely with Robert over the coming years and months. It is always a joy to work with someone who has such extensive skills and experience as well as lived understanding of what it is like to be a carer”
Speaking about his new role, Robert says:
“I am very pleased to be appointed as Chair, and having worked closely with Alan and most recently with Sonia Mangan, our new CEO, I now feel ready to take on the full responsibility. We want Carers Support to continue on its path of growth to provide help to even more carers right across West Sussex and especially when they or their loved ones are unfortunately in hospital.
Our charity has a great ethos in supporting the whole person in their need, who may be caring for a loved one in so many different ways. And during my time with the charity to-date I have been incredibly impressed with the dedication and passion of our front-line staff and volunteers, who so diligently deliver our services and manage such a wide variety of support groups for carers.
With the encouragement of my colleagues on the board, our keen executives and their enthusiastic teams we are at the beginning of a new chapter of development, which naturally presents new challenges but also affords a great opportunity to do more for our beneficiaries”.
