Keep Yourself and Others Safe This Winter
Since the first COVID-19 vaccine was given, it has saved lives, helped tens of thousands of people stay out of hospital, and made it safer for us to live with COVID. But the virus is still with us and is still making people very ill every day. And, as we head into autumn and winter, flu presents further dangers. The flu vaccine is the best protection against getting seriously ill from flu and spreading it to other people.
COVID is still with us
Carers in Sussex are eligible to receive the Flu and COVID-19 vaccines
Getting your flu and COVID vaccines are two of the most important things you can do to keep yourself and others around you safe this winter.
The NHS is getting ready to offer COVID-19 vaccines over autumn to those eligible, starting with those at greatest risk. It is important that you, as a carer, come forward as soon as possible, for extra protection ahead of winter, when viruses circulate most and can cause greatest harm. For maximum protection, your COVID vaccination must be at least three months after your previous dose.

Can I get both vaccines at the same time?
The COVID-19 and the flu vaccine can be given on the same day and some people might get both vaccines at the same time. However, this may not always be possible, so we encourage everybody to get each vaccination as soon as they can, rather than waiting to get both at the same time.
Please help to keep yourself and those around you safe against these viruses by getting vaccinated. You can find out more about what vaccinations you may need, and information about how to book an appointment, by visiting www.nhs.uk/flujab and www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccine.

Which COVID-19 booster do I get?
There are 2 booster options of the COVID-19 vaccine you may be able to get:
- 1st booster for everyone aged 16 and over, and some children aged 12 to 15, once they have completed their primary COVID-19 vaccination course
- a seasonal booster (autumn booster) for some people, including those aged 50 years or over, carers, those at higher risk or who are pregnant, and frontline health and social care workers
If you have not had a booster dose yet, you’re still eligible and can book anytime.
As a carer, how do I get a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine?
There are two ways you can organise getting the COVID-19 vaccine:
- Book a COVID-19 vaccination appointment online here. Please note, when completing the booking, you will need to input your NHS number / DOB before you can declare your carer status.
- Find a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination site to get vaccinated without needing an appointment. Find a walk-in coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination site here.
