Carers Health and Well-being Grant

If you're a registered Carer with us, you might be eligible to apply for a carers grant to support your needs. Our primary goal is to address any concerns you have about your caring role and help you achieve your personal goals.

What is the Carers Wellbeing Grant for?

From the 1st of April 2024 we began a new contract with the Local Authority which requires us, through an assessment, to demonstrate a carer’s needs in relation to any funded support. This includes the Carer Health and Wellbeing Grant.  We are required to consider a carer’s own resources and community support that could meet their needs, before considering if funded support is necessary. This ensures publicly funded monies are allocated to those most in need. We understand that your needs may vary, and if your proposed use of the carers wellbeing grant falls outside our considerations, our wellbeing workers will gladly suggest alternative sources of funding for you to explore.

Here are some examples of what carers have previously used the carers wellbeing grant for:

Approval is not guaranteed. Therefore, refrain from making any commitments based on potential funding until a decision is made.

If you’re interested in applying, don’t hesitate to contact us, and we’ll guide you through the application process. We aim to provide a decision within 6-8 weeks of receiving your application. Your well-being is essential to us, and we’re here to support you on your caring journey.

Carers Health Team

The Carers Health Team is a team of health professionals working with Sussex Community NHS Trust, who will work with any carer over the age of 18 who would like to improve their physical or emotional health. The Carers Health Team works closely with NHS specialist services, social & caring services and voluntary & community services and will link carers with these services when appropriate. They can provide information and advice on specific health conditions, managing medicines as well as practical advice on the caring environment (safe lifting and handling, healthy eating, risk minimisation), and are happy to arrange appointments to visit carers in their own home at a time to suit their needs, including outside of Monday-Friday 9am – 5pm hours. However, the Carers Health Team is not an emergency service.

You don’t need your GP or another organisation to refer you, you can contact them yourself if you’d like to find out more about how they can work with you to improve your health:

  1. South team (covering areas in and around Littlehampton, Storrington, Worthing, Shoreham, Chichester, Midhurst, Petworth, Arundel, Pulborough, Billingshurst and Bognor Regis)
  2. North team (covering areas in and around Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex

Other health services can be accessed via your GP practice – for instance did you know that carers are entitled to free flu jabs in their own right; and most GP practices keep a Carers Register, so that they know who Carers are and can offer flexibility with appointments to make the caring role easier.
