Engagement & Volunteer Officer (12 Month FTC)

Salary: £22,077.00 (FTE £27,228.00)
Work Pattern: 30hrs worked across 4 days to be agreed at interview

Are you passionate about involvement and volunteers?

If yes then this role may be for you. You will be a vital part of the Engagement & Volunteer Team, where you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of unpaid family and friend carers in West Sussex. 

You will work alongside colleagues to develop and deliver engagement and participation opportunities that influence positive change and truly make a difference to carers, both locally and nationally. 

You will help to recruit, train, induct and diversify our volunteer base and be involved in a variety of exciting volunteer supported projects that enhance the services we provide.


The role is mainly remote / homeworking with the expectation that you may need to travel on occasion to in-person meetings and training across the county. This role would therefore suit those located in, or close to, West Sussex. This role may also include some weekend engagements.

Interview Dates: 16th July between 2-5pm and 17th July between 1-5pm. 

Job Role

  • Inclusion: Use participation tools to support with the design and delivery of engagement,  consultation and co-production opportunities with unpaid carers in order to influence change locally and nationally.
  • Awareness Raising: Support with the creation of visually appealing and engaging content to promote and grow carer engagement. This includes written and video carer stories.
  • Volunteer Support: Work as part of the team to recruit and on-board new volunteers. Assist in the delivery and support of volunteer training sessions, peer support meetings and mentoring (online or in person).
  • Service Delivery: Work proactively within the team to grow and develop volunteer programmes such as Check-In and Chat, and volunteer-led carer groups. Horizon scan and collaborate with the wider operational team to identify new volunteer opportunities.
  • Networking and Partnerships: Attend and organise profile-raising events (i.e., Carers Week, Carers Rights Day, Volunteers Week,) and attend network events and meetings.
