World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day happens annually on the 10th of September. Did you know, 6,000 people a year take their own life in the UK and ROI, which is a staggering figure! It is a leading cause of death among young people.

Even though suicide is a complex issue, we can find hope by looking out for those who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and provide support and love. Whilst we are more comfortable and open discussing mental health in today’s society, there is still a need to be active and check in with those around us, or indeed reach out if you are struggling. Having positive conversations around mental health plays a vital part in suicide prevention.

World Suicide prevention day aims to raise awareness and reduce the stigma that surrounds suicide. This year’s theme is “Creating Hope through Action.” So please take action if you are struggling, please reach out and know you are not alone. If you’re worried that someone is having suicidal thoughts, take action and ask them. You could save a life.
