Carers Support West Sussex Counselling Service

The role of a carer can be an emotional struggle as well as being physically challenging. Caring for yourself can feel down the end of your list of tasks but is so very important to ensure that your wellbeing Is considered, to enable you to continue in your caring role. Friends and family can be a wonderful support but sometimes it’s not easy to talk to them about all the feelings and emotions that you have.

Our counselling service is a psychological talking therapy in place to offer support to carers of family and friends. It is an opportunity to talk about problems, emotions and issues in a secure safe and confidential environment. Speaking with a professional counsellor offers an independent and non-judgemental alternative support.

We are guided by you in what issues are causing the most emotional impact and what you would like to achieve to enable you to carry on and feel better. Through this service we offer support so that you can reach a better understanding of your situation and put yourself in a better place to make the right choices for you when faced with difficulties. Importantly, we can help you learn to take care of yourself and therefore be in a better place to continue to provide care to your loved one to the best of your ability.

Counselling may of help if you are feeling:

  • Overwhelmed by the responsibility of being a carer
  • Depressed, emotional or anxious
  • Guilty for thinking of yourself
  • Sometimes resentful to the person you care for or the situation
  • Drained by the role, isolated or alone in it.

If one or more of these is an issue to you then a calm structured discussion with a professional counsellor can help you to cope daily.

Our counsellors offer:

  • One-to-one counselling sessions either by Zoom or telephone
  • Up to 6 sessions available to each carer
  • Sessions take place weekly on the same day and at the same time.

All counsellors follow the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
