Digital Champion

The “Digital Champion” is part of our Connecting Carers Service to connect carers socially and digitally. 

We will match you with a carer who needs some support to enable them to benefit from the digital world. If you are the go to person for all things Digital in your household and have a good understanding of how to use technology then this could be just the role for you.

You will be supporting carers remotely and by telephone to help them to get digitally connected online. They may just need help to access the internet, use an iPad or set up email or Zoom. You will be given a license to Digital Unite’s Digital Champion learning and development portal where you can access training resources for you in your role as well as resources that you can share with the carer. It is a great opportunity if you want to develop your skills in this area.

Skills and personal qualities needed:

You need to be

  • Enthusiastic about the benefits of being online and able to share this with others
  • Have a friendly approach and the confidence to encourage people to have a go at building online skills
  • good IT skills and able to use online systems including zoom
  • patient and able to explain in simple terms

You might have to help with:

  • setting up and using an email account
  • browsing the internet
  • staying safe online
  • using Zoom or other ways to video call (WhatsApp etc)
  • using price comparison sites
  • online shopping
  • setting up social media accounts
  • Using an Alexa or similar technology

What difference will you make:

You will make a difference by supporting carers to be more confident using IT equipment and connecting online. It could mean that they can now connect to family, do their own shopping, email or complete forms online. It can open up a new world and help people enjoy all the benefits that the digital world can bring.

Location: This role can we undertaken from anywhere in West Sussex and you will be supported virtually in your role.

Timings & commitment: Flexible to suit you and in agreement with the carers. A commitment of a minimum of 6 months.

Training requirements:
• Carers Support West Sussex – 2 hours Induction over zoom
• Basic Adult Safeguarding (online)
• GDPR (online)

Support for you:

You will be supported by a designated mentor along with a monthly peer support group for check in and chat volunteers. You will be part of the wider staff and volunteering team and there are many opportunities for taking part in learning opportunities. Regular social meetings and team meetings where appropriate. Access to Workplace Employee Assistance Programme.
