Supporting carers during Learning Disability Week 2025: “Do you see me?”
Learning Disability Week 2025 kicks off on Monday, June 16, with the poignant theme: “Do you see me?” This campaign, led by Mencap, aims to amplify the voices of individuals with learning disabilities, urging society to see, hear, and value them in all aspects of life. Mencap: Learning Disability Week
For the estimated 70,000 unpaid carers in West Sussex, this week serves as a vital reminder of the challenges faced by those they support and the importance of community, recognition, and accessible resources.
The role of unpaid carers
Unpaid carers are the backbone of support for individuals with learning disabilities. They provide essential assistance with daily activities, healthcare, and social inclusion, often without formal training or respite. Despite their crucial role, carers frequently encounter emotional, physical, and financial strain. Learning Disability Week offers an opportunity to acknowledge their dedication and highlight available support.
