Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign to bring caring right out into the open – recognising and celebrating the contribution carers make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Getting Carers Connected

The theme of Carers Week 2019 is ‘Getting Carers Connected’.  All the details of what we’re doing to connect carers, including events, activities and drop-ins can be found below.

Carers Support Photo Competition

For Carers Registered with Carers Support

For Carers Week 2019 we are launching our very own Photo Competition and we’re really excited.  We have £100 worth of Gift Vouchers to win for three carers who send us their #feelgoodcarers photos between now and then end of Carers Week.  If you think you need a fancy camera and expensive equipment, you’re wrong.  This competition is open to anyone who has a camera phone too!  Here’s how you enter.

  1.  Take your #feelgoodcarers photo

  2. Send it to us via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email (click on the icon below)

  3. Don’t forget to include the hashtag #feelgoodcarers

That’s it!  We’ll announce the winners the week after Carers Week.  This is a great chance to show off your camera skills and be in with the chance of winning some cool vouchers that you can spend in dozens of locations.  Full Terms and Conditions can be found here.

Weald and Downland Living Museum – Tuesday June 11th

For Carers Registered with Carers Support – Booking needed

All day tickets now fully booked, spaces available for afternoon booking

If you’re one of our registered carers please join us for a wonderful FREE day out at the gorgeous Weald and Downland Living Museum in the heart of Sussex – bring the person you care for and/or other friends – up to four tickets per carer. Stay for as short a time as you wish or all day if you would like.

Enjoy the museum’s 40-acre site and visit its collection of historic buildings – more than 50 to explore from a replica Anglo-Saxon hall house to an Edwardian tin tabernacle church as well as new attractions, including a new working bakehouse . There will be some activites for carers to enjoy depending on weather and availability. Take a walk in the woods, visit the waterside café (dog-friendly) or enjoy your own picnic.

Start the day with us over free coffee and cake in the lovely Sargent Room, which overlooks the lake, before visiting the museum site.

Dogs are welcome and can enter all of the Museum’s buildings with the exceptions of the watermill and Winkhurst Tudor kitchen, where food is prepared. Dogs are welcome in the first section of the museum’s café and on the outdoor deck. Please respect other visitors, plus the wildfowl and chickens, by keeping your dog on a short lead and under control – extending leads must be locked at a short length.

If you’re not yet registered as a carer with us please call 0300 028 8888 or register online at

(please note the centre of the museum site is flat with parts set on sloping ground, which is steep in places. Some paths are cobbled and their surfaces may cause difficulty for visitors who use a wheelchair or have impaired mobility. The museum does have a limited supply of wheelchairs but please make sure you ring ahead to book and ensure this will be available.)

Cooking for Carers – Thursday 13th June

For Carers Registered with Carers Support – Booking needed

This year for Carers Week 2019, Carers will have the chance to join us for a live Curry Cooking Demonstration and Taster session at the Community Kitchen inside Tesco Shoreham.

Robin van Creveld from Community Chef (pictured) will be demonstrating how to cook some simply and tasty vegetarian Indian dishes, including Vegetable samosa with Hari chutney, Channa Masala (spiced chickpeas), Baingan Matar Masala – (Roast Aubergine and Pea curry) and Chapatti (wholemeal flatbreads).

Please bring along an empty container (Tupperware box) on the day. All carers will also be given recipes cards of the meals being made to take home.

IMPORTANT: Any carers with food allergies or intolerances must be aware of the risk. Whilst we are able to provide a list of ingredients, the Community Kitchen is a shared space, so there will be other food sources (i.e. there may be traces of products such as milk, eggs, gluten, seafood, peanuts, other nuts, sesame seeds).
