Carers Support is a member of the West Sussex Behaviour Support Network (BSN). It was set up to bring together families, providers and practitioners from health and social care who support young people and adults with learning disabilities and/or autism and who present with complex challenging behaviour.

The network organises 3–4 events each year. One of these events is specifically designed with family carers in mind. While attendance is open to other network members, priority for this event is given to family carers.

This online session will feature presentations by a range of Health professionals from the West Sussex Community Learning Disability Teams (CLDTs) who will be offering practical information and advice in supporting someone who engages in self-injurious behaviour.

The presenters are all from the local CLDTs and the focus will be on supporting those with a learning disability (who may also be autistic). However we hope many of the ideas will also be helpful for those supporting someone with autism and would welcome parents/carers of this group to the event too.

The full agenda is currently being finalised but is likely to include some of the following:
  • Positive Behaviour Support approaches to self injury
  • Supporting physical health concerns
  • Links to sensory needs
  • The role of Psychiatry/medication
  • Parent/Carer Wellbeing

Please note this meeting will be held on MS Teams and the link will be emailed the day before the event.
