Are you passionate about improving the wellbeing of others and making a meaningful difference to unpaid carers?

This role sits within our Neighbourhood Team in Arun, Adur and Worthing. Working alongside two other Carer Funds Support Workers, you will support unpaid carers across West Sussex who are experiencing financial hardship and have been affected by a financial shock. The role is funded by the UK Government Crisis Resilience Fund.

As a Carer Funds Support Worker, you will have sensitive, person-centred conversations with carers to understand their circumstances, identify immediate and wider needs, and complete high-quality applications to the Crisis and Resilience Fund. You will help carers access practical support, information and services that can improve their financial situation and overall wellbeing.

Working closely with colleagues and partner organisations, you will make warm referrals, coordinate support and help carers identify practical next steps that build resilience and reduce the likelihood of future crisis.

We are looking for a compassionate and confident communicator with sound judgement, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage sensitive information accurately.

Appointments are subject to an appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service.

Job Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess carers’ needs: Hold sensitive, person-centred conversations with carers experiencing financial hardship or immediate crisis, identifying their circumstances, immediate risks and wider support needs.
  • Complete funding applications: Prepare accurate, evidence-based applications to the Crisis and Resilience Fund, clearly recording eligibility, identified need, requested support and expected outcomes.
  • Connect carers with wider support: Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, making timely warm referrals for support such as welfare benefits, debt, housing, energy, wellbeing and social isolation.
  • Support longer-term resilience: Help carers identify practical next steps, follow up awards and record outcomes, with the aim of improving financial stability and reducing the likelihood of future crisis.

About You

  • Compassionate communicator: Able to hold sensitive conversations with empathy and respect, listening carefully and helping carers feel understood and supported.
  • Sound judgement: Able to understand complex circumstances, analyse information and make clear, evidence-based recommendations within agreed criteria.
  • Organised and accurate: Able to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain clear, accurate records with strong attention to detail.
Location: This role is predominantly home-based and requires regular travel across West Sussex, including at short notice. A flexible approach to travel is essential to meet the needs of the role.

Working Hours Flexibility: May be required to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends to meet service needs; additional hours may be required in line with business demands, with time off in lieu provided where agreed.
